STAGES OF THE CREATION OF THE NOVEL
The process of creation of the novel was developed in the following stages.
1. Divine Spark
In this very first stage the divine spark initiated the whole process. The spark arose on a trip with a great friend who suggested the possibility of writing a novel. At this stage the book was an undifferentiated possibility; it was just an initial impulse.
2. The idea
2 - The idea: The idea of the novel emerged on a train trip: it would be a story of a spiritual awakening, in Toledo, during the medieval times, in a school of the soul…
3. The structure
The next stage was to give structure to the novel. The structure would consist in 40 chapters divided in 4 parts. Each part had a main theme:
1 - A life determined by others.
2 - A pilgrimage in search of oneself
3 - The determination of one's life (finding oneself)
4 - Mystical encounter with God after entering in a school of the soul.
One expert was consulted regarding the structure and the main theme of the novel. The expert provided the knowledge and his experience.
There was a great work of research. The author walked a 400 km trek from Teruel to Toledo. He investigated the life of kings of the time, their biography, the historical facts, the civil law of the 13th century...
In this stage the author chose the most relevant historical facts. He, then, introduced the story of a fiction character living in Aragon and Castile in the 13th century. The character would walk the "hero´s journey" and travel to Toledo to enter in a mystical Jewish School of the Soul.
7 - Compromise
"This phase was very important since I compromise with myself and with life to start and finish the novel. I had set a starting date to write the novel, but a couple of months before that day, my mother was diagnosed with a terminal cancer. It was a very difficult time to start, but I did it with my mother in the hospital. I hardly wrote a few sentences every day, since the death of my mother was near. Just one month after I started the novel, she passed away. The compromise sustained me, and helped me to start and finish the novel." (Gonzalo S. Rey)
8. Writting of the novel
The author wrote the whole novel without any editing. He wrote it on paper and with a pen (later he typed it on a computer). There were almost 800 pages.
In this stage the style was corrected and the novel edited. It was neccesary look at the novel from the reader´s perspective. After this process, the novel was reduced to 434 pages.
10 - Illustrations
At this stage the cover, the images, and the layout were designed. In other words, the image of the novel was formed.
The novel was finally printed and it was in the physical world after the whole process.
