STAGES OF THE HERO'S JOURNEY
The hero goes through a transformation process. This process is an inner journey structured in several stages. Throughout history all heroes have gone through similar phases, which form what is called "the hero's journey".
But remember that the hero is not only in movies or in books. The hero is within yourself.
1. Initial scenario, or the ordinary life
In this stage the hero is in his normal routine. It is a passive stage, where the life of the hero is determined by others. The talents of the hero are hidden.
2. The intial awakening
The hero goes through a crisis and says, "Enough". He cannot take the life determined by others anymore. It is the initial moment of enlightenment, when the hero perceives the possibilities of a new life, and compares them with his own life.
3. The start of the journey
At this stage the hero starts his journey, but doubt appears, because he does not know which way he should go. He has to face the fears and the temptation to go back to the previous life.
4. The encounter with a guide
When the person is ready, the guide appears. The hero needs a guide to help him in his journey. Note that the guide does not have to be a person. It can be a book, a friend, a visible or invisible human beign.
5. Transit through the desert
This is the most difficult part of the hero's journey, since he has to leave the all bad habits that he loves that are detrimental. It is a process of inner transformation, when the hero must stop being a victim and become responsible for his life.
6. The encounter with his inner self
After the difficult transition of the previous stage, the hero finds out who he really is. The transition through the desert has helped him to mature, and to accept his limits. He also finds that he has capabilities that he was not aware of.
7. He uses his talents in the world
The hero discovers new talents and uses everything he has learned so far. He realizes his true vocation, which is always translated into service for others.
8. The intimate encounter with the spirit
The hero realizes that in doing his work in the world, he is actually doing spiritual work. He has become an instrument of God to help in the process of awakening humanity. He meets others who also perform spiritual service in the world and he forms a community.
The last stage is when the hero, God and the world merge together. The hero realizes that there is no difference between him and God. He is a divine spark in the world.
